
Why a Rolling Server Cabinet Was the Perfect Solution for This Office
The other day, I was at a client's office helping them sort out some tech issues after a remodel. As I looked around, I noticed something important—there just wasn’t a safe or efficient place for their networking equipment anymore. The old setup had been torn out during construction, and their routers, switches, and server were sitting on a makeshift table in a closet. Not ideal.
After evaluating the space and their needs, I knew the best solution was a rolling server cabinet. This would keep their equipment organized, protected, and mobile if they ever needed to move things around in the future.
We decided on a 22U rolling server cabinet (this one from Amazon). It’s sturdy, has locking front and back doors, and it rolls smoothly—even on carpet. That means it’s easy to access the gear inside, even in tight spaces.

To go along with it, I added a 4-post server rack shelf (link here) so they could securely hold non-rack-mountable equipment like their backup drive and a couple of cable boxes. Everything now fits neatly inside, with plenty of airflow and room for future expansion.
